About “Can't Complain”

Neither writer arrived with a subject; the song found one midway through the second session. "Can't complain" started as a phrase neither meant seriously — a deflection so ordinary nobody hears it, until it's written down and repeated. The structure trades faster than a feature: the lead alternates, the ad-libs are always the other person, the hook is sung in unison rather than harmony, and it ends mid-exchange with neither getting the last word. Splits were agreed in plain language before the second session. Sped-up and slowed + reverb versions included.
