About “THE SPLIT”

One track, two halves, and a beat that refuses to stay the same underneath them. NST takes the first half over the version we started with; the second half is the same key and tempo with almost nothing else in common. Everything hinges on one bar in the middle — we tried it as a hard cut, a filtered sweep and a drum fill, and the version on the record does the least of the three. On something with real low end, that bar is where the track changes its mind.
